ANGOLA : HOW THEY QUALIFIED

In its sixth attempt to qualify for the Cup since 1986, Angola won African Group 4, although the team experienced some tense moments in the preliminary round. The Angolans dropped a 3-1 away decision to lowly Chad, but rebounded with a 2-0 home win, advancing on away goals. After finishing tied with Nigeria, each with a 6-1-3 record and 21 points, Angola reached its first World Cup by winning the head-to-head competition. The teams played to a 1-1 draw in Nigeria, but Angola prevailed at home, 1-0.
