Third straight for Boston, Atlanta tops Sky Blue

BOSTON BREAKERS 2, WASHINGTON FREEDOM 1
CAMBRIDGE, Mass---The Boston Breakers came from behind for the third straight game to win, defeating the Washington Freedom 2-1 at Harvard Stadium Sunday.

Two minutes in the Freedom took the lead when Sarah Huffman made a 50 yard run down the right wing past a couple of Breakers defenders. She sent a cross through the box where Nikki Marshall was making a run at the opposite post. Marshall was able to easily finish.

The Breakers equalized in the 23rd minute. Kelly Smith stole the ball from Cat Whitehill near midfield on the right. She sent a cross to Liz Bogus who was breaking inside the 18. Bogus finished from the top of the six by putting the ball through the legs of Freedom goalkeeper Erin McLeod.

The game winner came in the 74th minute. Second half substitute Kristine Lilly, who played 45 minutes for the U.S. on Saturday, sent a corner kick into the area from the left side. Ifeoma Dieke got up to get a header on it, and as McLeod batted at the ball, Lindsey Tarpley redirected it with her head to Jordan Angeli for the tap in.
