CHICAGO RED STARS 2, SKY BLUE FC 0
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill--Ella Masar’s fourth goal in as many games, coupled with defender Daphne Koster’s own goal, gave the Chicago Red Stars a 2-0 win over Sky Blue FC Saturday night at Toyota Park.
The win extends the Red Stars’ unbeaten streak to four games, the longest in club history.
Sky Blue were without midfielder Heather O'Reilly and defenders Christie Rampone and Megan Schnur, who are on National Team duty, while the Red Stars took the field without starting goalkeeper Jillian Loyden, defender Kate Markgraf and midfielder Megan Rapinoe.
The Red Stars held a clear edge in shots, 23-7, and in shots on goal, 10-2, but this time the team managed to outscore their opposition. Natalie Spilger found just enough space on the left flank to deliver a feed to Masar on the left corner of the penalty area. Masar positioned the ball and struck a volley that sailed over the head of goalkeeper Kristen Luckenbill for the first goal ever scored by the Red Stars against Sky Blue.
Sky Blue dug themselves into a 2-0 hole in the 47th minute, when defender Daphne Koster deflected the ball into her own net. Luckenbill managed to get a portion of her glove on the ball, but could not do enough to bat it away from the goal.
